At Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, we caught up with John Oates, Wireless Systems Director at Analog Devices, to hear about the company’s latest innovation: the Samana radio unit system on chip (SoC).

Designed specifically for Open RAN deployments, Samana integrates a number of key features, including built in energy saving capabilities, to radically simplify radio architecture for O-RU vendors.

Oates also outlines some of the energy saving features Analogue Devices have built into Samana, and how these are key to helping operators reduce their OpEx.

Built for the O-RAN Alliance‘s 7.2 functional split and supporting a wide RF range (400 MHz to 7.125 GHz), Open RAN innovations like these, are positioned to bring both efficiency and security to next-gen 4G/5G infrastructure.
