Building a New Path for Open RAN with Kyocera’s O-RU Alliance

Open RANUncategorized

Originally founded as a ceramic components manufacturer, Kyocera has diversified into multiple sectors, with telecom equipment now a key priority. This year, the company announced the launch of the O-RU Alliance, a partnership with six other manufacturers aimed at accelerating the market entry of Open RAN radios.

By leveraging Kyocera’s technology and industry relationships, the alliance intends to help smaller RU vendors overcome barriers to commercialisation and compete more effectively in the global market.

The first radios from alliance members are already available, with Kyocera’s own millimeter-wave RU set to follow in the coming months. Kyocera is also developing its own CU/DU products, with full integration expected by the end of 2026.

At Mobile World Congress 2025, I spoke with Yoshihisa Nakagawa, Global Sales Manager at Kyocera Corporation, about the company’s growing focus on telecommunications and its new initiative to drive Open RAN adoption.
