O-RAN ALLIANCE Announces New Chair

Open RAN

O-RAN ALLIANCE has announced that Dr. Abdurazak Mudesir, Group CTO of Deutsche Telekom, has been elected as Chair of the Board, effective on June 25, 2024. The trade body, founded in February 2018 by AT&T, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, NTT DOCOMO and Orange, is responsible for setting industry standards for Open RAN. Dr. Mudesir joined DT in 2018 from Huawei. He’s been the Group CTO since April 2022.

The organisation was quick to reassure its community that under Dr. Mudesir’s chairmanship, O-RAN ALLIANCE will stay fully committed to its mission to transform Radio Access Networks to be open, intelligent, virtualized and fully interoperable.

The move comes after former O-RAN ALLIANCE Chairman Dr. Alex Jinsung Choi left Deutsche Telekom after seven years at the German operator where he held several posts including Group CTO and more recently, SVP of T-Labs.

Dr. Choi was also one of the founding directors of the O-RAN ALLIANCE in 2018. He served as Chief Operations Officer until 2022, and then as Chair of the Board until June 2024.
